The young person’s journey

With Jobs Guarantee: West Midlands, you get support at every stage of your journey into work. We work with you before you start, while you are settling into your role, and as you begin to think about what comes next.

We work across all sectors and industries, with placements spanning from administration and customer service, to sports, hospitality, and information technology.

Before you start

Referrals to the Jobs Guarantee: West Midlands programme can be made by your Jobcentre Plus work coach. If you have been on Universal Credit for 18 months or more, they will speak to you about opportunities within the programme, and refer you on to us.

We then look to match you to the right opportunity, based on your strengths, interests, and what support you might need to succeed in your new role. Our priority is helping you into the right role, not just any role.

Once we have found you a placement, we help you get ready for the reality of work. Our support is tailored to the industry or sector that you are joining, and will include talking through what the role involves, what employers expect, and how to manage your routine, travel planning, and any practical issues that will help you with starting in your new role. We will also work on you to build your confidence, and relieve any first-day nerves.

In-work support

Once you are in work, we stay involved for all six months of your placement. Our programme is designed to help you succeed in work, grow in confidence, and move forward with a clearer sense of direction.

You will receive regular check-ins from your dedicated Career Coach, help with confidence and communication, and support if anything starts to feel difficult. We can also help with practical barriers that affect your ability to stay in work. This might include support with travel, equipment or digital access through our £300 bursary offer, confidence, changing personal circumstances, or linking you to wider services when needed – including our specialist mental health support.

We also stay in touch with your employer to ensure that you are receiving all the support you need in the workplace too.

Preparing for the future

Finally, we help you think ahead. From mid-way through your placement, we start talking with you about progression and what your next step could be. That might mean moving into a longer-term role with the same employer, building your CV with real experience, preparing for interviews, or getting help to look for your next opportunity.

From day one to your next move, we are here to help you start strong, stay supported, and keep progressing.
